Hi,

I finally sold a couple of downloads of the same picture on Fotolia. It's from the inside of a baby grand piano, and it's the most popular of my photos. Since I'm sort of new to this, these are the only downloads I've had yet, but I'm working on getting more photos up. Looks like it will be a while before I get that first $50.00 check.

Can any of you tell me what sort of photos sell the best on Fotolia, or any site for that matter? I don't want to waste time on worthless pics if they're not what people want.

In my opinion Fotolia is one of the loosest agencies. They will accept almost anything, however they don't sell as well per image. The things that go well is what there is a demand dor, but not many options. I am still trying to figure out exactly what that is .

Good luck with Fotolia. I signed up there, but have never had much success. I think they have almost to many images for new photographers (almost 2.5 mil I think).

I think FOTOLIA is the pretty good microstock site. I am there for about 1-2 months, and I sold 16 photos so far (earned 13$)

What surprised me is that Fotolia is even better (in terms of sales) than IStockPhoto and Shutterstock - at least for me.

I don't know why but I would advice it's because it is localised in many countries and it sells worldwide.

Keywording is essential. Your keywords are automatically translated in many languages but of course there's the risk that automatic translation isn't perfect so I prefer to keyword my pictures in English even if my main language is Italian: at least most of the people in Europe and US will find the right words.

I have very good luck with Fotolia. My portfolio is almost 90% people...and that seems to go very well there. In a funny sort of way I think my American sensibilities work well there for the Eastern European market. Not really sure why.

One thing I really like about Fotolia is that you can see who purchased your image. I've been able to track down some in use on the web that way and just generally see trends in who is buying what. So I know the Eastern European agencies/designers are snapping them up.
