Hi everybody!

I started using photo stocks not so long ago and I can't answer some question here: why do almost all of them use credits system in one or another form?

For example depositphotos.com.. They force me to buy their credits at rate 1 credit for 1 dollar. Why? I could put my dollars onto account in the system and spend them just the same way.

Do I miss some juridical aspect here?

My guess is that it's so they can rely on regular income from their users, whether you use all or none of your credits. It also reduces the amount of money that goes to the creators ultimately.

It could be some foreign countries require it like that, but honestly I think they do it so you just buy a standard credit package and it keeps you coming back. As photographers several sites also show our income as credits until you request payment. I view it like when you go to a state fair or carnival...they make you buy tickets at the booths and then you just easily hand the tickets over to who ever you want and get your service.
