TOPIC: Megapixel Size

Megapixel Size 4 years, 3 months ago #966

I'm a new submitter to sites. Shutterstock requires a minimum of 4 megapixels. Which of the other major sites require this? Is the only way to find out the number of megapixels by multiplying the dimensions?

Thanks.

Yes, you should multiple the dimension. I think with many of the agencies this is a guidline, you may be able to squeeze an image in that is slightly less than the limit. At least it can't hurt to try. I would recommend shooting with a camera that is at least 2.0MP above the minimum because many agencies pay you better for selling a Large or X-Large Size.

I agree, it is probably worth purchasing a higher MP camera, since you will be able to sell higher resolution (higher priced) images. It is these larger sized images that quickly boost sales revenue. As cheap as camera prices are getting, the increase in average price/download could easily offset the cost if you are serious about microstock.
