Post RAW to TIFF to JPG.. 8bit vs 16bit? XXLarge images?
I'm new to this (you can probably tell, huh). Though I'm getting images accepted, they were all before I started shooting in RAW. (I just started shooting RAW) I've been frustrated by not being able to get poster sized resolution.

I have some rock bottom basic software (Elements 2). Is this the reason that I can't get a 16bit TIFF to convert to a 16bit JPG? .. or am I way off track in trying to get this figured out?

This is what I'm working with: Canon EOS 30D (8.2 megapixel)
Photoshop Elements 2.0
so far - no noise software (I looked but didn't know which Noise Ninja to buy.. what would you suggest?)

When I convert my RAW images to TIFF, I use the 16bit option. .. but it would only convert to JPEG2000 (JPF) .. I believe that the stock sites only accept JPEG.

I need to know how to get the XLarge and XXLarge sizes in JPG. Can someone help me please?

Hi there. For most microstock sites the size of your image is determined solely by the sensor in your camera. However many megapixels your camera is, determines the maximum size of your image. For example my Nikon D80 is around 10 megapixels, which works out to a 3880x2608 image. The only way to make this image larger is to up-sample it and as far as I know most microstock sites don't want you doing this. So unless you are doing collages or something your maximum file size will be determined by your 8 megapixels.

Most sites only accept standard jpegs, or end up converting them once received anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much about that issue, unless you are interested in doing HDR images, which you would still convert to 8 bit in the end anyway.

I use Bibble to convert all my RAW images, which comes with NoiseNinja built in and I like it quite a bit. I haven't used anything else, so can't help much on the noise software.

There is a lot more money in the xlarge and xxlarge image sizes, which can really add to revenue, but from all I know the only way to do it is to get a higher resolution camera. Happy Downloads! http://www.sprintingturtles.info
