Post Best noise reuction software?
When I submit images I often get some back that say I should run them through a noise reduction software. Which is currently the best out there. I have used Neat Image a couple years ago, but not that impressed. Has it gotten better? Are there other options?

I still only have neatImage (and older version). In my opinion they al kind of stink. Well, I don't really expect a miracle, but I never have much luck with them. I either have consistant grain everywhere or I get "weird" grain here and there.

I would also be interested in hearing others experiences with noise reduction software.

I use Noise Ninja and it is my favorite. I have also been heardin good things about Imagenomic Noiseware Professional, but haven't tried it yet.

Checkout this site for a good review of noise reduction software:

Not a very pretty site, but seems pretty detailed.

I like NeatImage if I am careful with it's setting. If the settings aren't correct it dulling the detail of the image.

Would you share with us your process of removing noise using this software. How do you decide if you have removed to much? I have noticed a lot of my photos get rejected for "plastic look".

It's the Luminance Channels in the 3rd tab (Noise Filter Settings). I typically choose a value of -30, but it depends on the image. Slide the bar while in preview mode (don't forget to press ctrl-+ a couple times to zoom in) and you'll see the effects very clearly.

Do you use noise reduction on most of you images or just on a few? It seems that some people use it all the time, where I use it maybe 2% of the time. I have some rejected for noise, but am more scared of being rejected for plastic.

I use it only when I need to. Works out to about 20% of the time. I view at 100% and look all over for noise/graininess. If there is just a little noice I will adjusted the Luminance Channels back even more so it does just a little touch-up.
